Overnight: Birmingham, Alabama

Day 2 – Elvis Presley's birthplace and Memphis

After breakfast, travel into Mississippi and stop in Tupelo, where Elvis Presley was born on 8 January 1935.

You'll have the opportunity to visit the modest two-room house where he spent his earliest years, now part of a museum dedicated to his life. Admission is payable locally.

Continue to Memphis, Tennessee, one of America's greatest music cities and the birthplace of rock and roll.

Check into The Guest House at Graceland, your home for the next two nights, before enjoying an evening at leisure.

Why not visit legendary Beale Street, where neon-lit blues clubs and live music venues celebrate Memphis's extraordinary musical heritage? The city is also famous for its barbecue, making it an ideal place to sample some authentic Southern food.

Day 3 – Discover Elvis Presley's Memphis

Enjoy a full day exploring Memphis and its remarkable musical history.

You can discover the city independently, perhaps visiting the National Civil Rights Museum, housed partly in the Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated, or the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum.

Alternatively, join an optional full-day excursion to two of the city's most famous music landmarks.

Begin at Sun Studio, where Elvis Presley recorded some of his earliest songs and where artists including Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins helped shape the sound of rock and roll.

It's a fitting tribute to one of country music's most beloved stars, whose remarkable career began in this rural corner of Tennessee.

Alex's view

This is a tour designed for music lovers, particularly those with an interest in Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton (may she rest in peace). Beyond the famous recording studios and music landmarks, I like that it takes you into the Great Smoky Mountains, adding a completely different side of Tennessee to the experience.

One important consideration is that several headline attractions, including Graceland and Dollywood, are optional excursions. I'd definitely factor those in from the outset to make the most of this fantastic trip.
